The artist will be joined by curator and podcast host Tuce Erel and researcher for ecologies and the arts Sina Ribak. Together they will dive into a conversation about the topics covered in the book, including climate grief, art as a tool for transformation and collaborative approaches to artmaking. Glacier Elegies is an in-depth look at Jaanika Peerna’s iconic work through essays, images of works and performances, and the artist’s own words. Much of Jaanika Peerna’s recent work is a lament to glaciers and natural ice. Her ongoing project Glacier Elegy forms the central core of this publication. The book touches on ecological grief and looks at how Peerna and other key contemporary artists have used the subject of ice to highlight the global climate emergency. Tuçe Erel has worked with Peerna previously on a couple of occasions. In summer 2021 she invited her to be part of group exhibition Leviathan: A Capitalocene Beastiarium and included her performance Glacier Elegy Berlin in the public program of the exhibit. Erel works at …. and runs podcast Art Next Door. Jaanika Peerna is an Estonian born artist living in New York since 1998. Her art practice stems from the corporeal experience of our existence and reaches towards enhanced awareness of the fragility, interconnectedness and wonder of all life. Sina Ribak is interested in collective research in order to explore issues such as bioeconomy, land use, soil, biodiversity, and solidarity from a critical more-than-human and naturecultures perspective. Sina co-directs the reading club Between Us and Nature with the artist Eva-Fiore Kovacovsky.
